Do you think he can cure diabetes this way? If it were someone in your family with diabetes, would you say “pray about it and don’t take your insulin.” Naturally, you wouldn’t!

Depression is like diabetes. It is an illness that can be measured by chemical reactions in the brain (serotonin levels). Rather than to put guilt on the depressed person (you need to pray more or fix your spiritual issue) it makes sense to treat the real, physical cause.

As you said, depression affects our brain chemicals, and also our thought patterns ingrained in our brains. That isn’t erased overnight. It takes work to rework those thought patterns into positive ones. Even if everything is fixed and you feel good it’ll take time to heal completely even if you had the resources.

There is nothing too hard for the absolute power of God.
If God needs more time to fix a problem it would mean that this specific task is challenging God. It will mean that God is not the absolute power but only a certain power hanging around hoping to win every once in while. As you can see it is not logical.
God is in everything and can repair everything.

Depression needs more than a chemical fix, though drugs will help alleviate the symptoms. Real depression is insidious because it convinces the sufferer that they’ll never get better and that there’s no point in trying to recover. A combination of medication, counselling, occupational and other therapies, maybe ECT, and a lot of patient, understanding TLC, can sometimes deliver the goods, but the condition tends to recur.

Instant, supernatural cures? Don’t make me laugh. Deliverance? Sure there can be, often is, a spiritual dimension to depression but you show me an exorcist who can do anything for this condition and I’ll show you my time machine.

He can heal depression and diabetes

But - God can do anything he pleases. But, if you read the Bible you will notice that miracles appeared in only a few times in history.
The times of Moses, the times of Elijah and Elisha, and of course when Jesus walked the earth was another time, hmmm… yes there were other miracles here and there reported through out the Bible but the main ones were held to very short periods of time.
God for the most part works through the natural order of things and wants us to follow him because he is God and not because of what he will do for us.

I was diagnosed with depression 32 years ago. For many of those years, I was treated with serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. Never once in my life did any physician make a measure of my serotonin levels. Never! I never got any better until I admitted that I was not mentally ill, rather spiritually weak. God can heal depression instantly and supernaturally, however, usually the deliverance comes gradually as faith in and reliance on God grow. While mind-numbing drugs can have some effect on depression, to say that it is equivalent to diabetes is disingenuous, as the world’s leading psychiatrists admit they have no idea how or why treatments do or do not work. I am fully convinced that psychiatry is one of the false sciences we are warned against in Paul’s letter to Timothy. Depression is a condition of the spirit and requires spiritual combat to overcome.
