premenstrual depression

Do any of you have PMDD? (premenstrual dysphoric disorder)
If you have it, did your doctor diagnose it right away? What are your symptoms? What kind of treatment do you use?
I’m going to the doctor, this is what I feel I have, I researched a lot on it, I also read on it that for treatment they usually give you SSRI’s. And just recently I saw that the birth control YAZ was FDA-approved to help also. I just wanted to hear from real women who have it or know someone that has it. Most places I researched said that only about 3-8% of women have it. Many are misdiagnosed with depression/anxiety. Any info would be appreciated.
I also thought of hormonal imbalance?
My symptoms start about 1 1/2-2 weeks before period, its becoming severe and interfering with all aspects of my life, my symptoms are, irritability, anger, fuzzy thinking, severe mood swings, swollen tender breast, overwhelmed, tired, achy, and food cravings and plenty more

PostHeaderIcon Thoughts on how to treat PMS and/or PMDD (premenstrual dyshphoric disorder)?

premenstrual depression

I am 26 years old and for the last year or so, the few days before my period have gotten steadily worse for me emotionally. The mood swings are intense and have begun to even affect my social life and relationships. I don’t know how to describe it…I just feel like a completely different, worthless lump of a person…it’s terrible.

I have never really monitored my monthly cycles; it was actually my boyfriend who noticed the pattern and brought to my attention. We decided our first course of action would be to track the symptoms.

Also, I have never been on birth control and have a history of depression.

1) What factors could contribute to these debilitating mood swings?
2) Is there anyway to holistically treat and balance hormone levels (I got laid off and have no health insurance…I just can’t afford a doctor)?
3) Would going on birth control help steady hormone levels or actually make them worse?
4) Any other thoughts to help get through that pre-menstrual time without wanting to walk myself off a d*mned bridge every other moment?

premenstrual depression

Sometimes I get grumpy two or just one week b4 but I think I’m a week away & I’m already “sore” I thought about having my hormones checked but if something IS wrong I dont want to take anymore pills than I already do: Xanax for anxiety & sleeping & Ultram for back pain, not to mention all my nutritional supplements. Your thoughts & forgive me if I was too graphic. IDK if if hat PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder?) but I wonder if that’s just a scam to prescribe more pills. I can’t take birth control pills b/c I suffer from borderline and depression. Is that “Estroven” OTC stuff any good?

PostHeaderIcon Any woman experiencing severe PMS symptoms? How about Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder?

premenstrual depression

PMDD is a severe, disabling form of PMS. In PMDD, the main symptoms are mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, tension, and persistent anger or irritability. These severe symptoms lead to problems with relationships and carrying out normal activities. Women with PMDD usually also have physical symptoms, such as headache, joint and muscle pain, lack of energy, bloating and breast tenderness. The symptoms occur during the two weeks before her period and go away when bleeding begins.

For me, two–three weeks a month everyday, for the last nine months, I’ve been suffering from PMS symptoms consisting of forehead headaches, body pain, sensitivity to touch, nausea and motion sickness. I’m 32. I think it’s hormonal. I would like to know of any herbal remedies that anyone has. I currently take Evening Primrose and I’m going to try Kava. I tried Prozac, but it made me feel worse. Your personal story and ideas to ease suffering would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you ladies for giving me some advice, I really appriciate it. I have taken Midol and Pamprin, but my symptoms are pretty severe. Thanks for the help.

Or at least something that will help. I can’t live like this and I don’t want to take antidepressants. I know that it is all just hormones and I won’t feel like this forever, but I could really use some help right now.
