premenstrual depression

Do any of you have PMDD? (premenstrual dysphoric disorder)
If you have it, did your doctor diagnose it right away? What are your symptoms? What kind of treatment do you use?
I’m going to the doctor, this is what I feel I have, I researched a lot on it, I also read on it that for treatment they usually give you SSRI’s. And just recently I saw that the birth control YAZ was FDA-approved to help also. I just wanted to hear from real women who have it or know someone that has it. Most places I researched said that only about 3-8% of women have it. Many are misdiagnosed with depression/anxiety. Any info would be appreciated.
I also thought of hormonal imbalance?
My symptoms start about 1 1/2-2 weeks before period, its becoming severe and interfering with all aspects of my life, my symptoms are, irritability, anger, fuzzy thinking, severe mood swings, swollen tender breast, overwhelmed, tired, achy, and food cravings and plenty more

PostHeaderIcon Thoughts on how to treat PMS and/or PMDD (premenstrual dyshphoric disorder)?

premenstrual depression

I am 26 years old and for the last year or so, the few days before my period have gotten steadily worse for me emotionally. The mood swings are intense and have begun to even affect my social life and relationships. I don’t know how to describe it…I just feel like a completely different, worthless lump of a person…it’s terrible.

I have never really monitored my monthly cycles; it was actually my boyfriend who noticed the pattern and brought to my attention. We decided our first course of action would be to track the symptoms.

Also, I have never been on birth control and have a history of depression.

1) What factors could contribute to these debilitating mood swings?
2) Is there anyway to holistically treat and balance hormone levels (I got laid off and have no health insurance…I just can’t afford a doctor)?
3) Would going on birth control help steady hormone levels or actually make them worse?
4) Any other thoughts to help get through that pre-menstrual time without wanting to walk myself off a d*mned bridge every other moment?

PostHeaderIcon Any women out there use Yaz, birth control method? Does it help your Premenstrual symptoms (depression)?

premenstrual depression

Yaz is a new birth control pill. There is one clinical trial I know of in which they determined that it helps with PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). I would like to know, as I would hope to have less stressful monthly cycles and to get off these antidepressants eventually.

premenstrual depression

i’m 18 and i’ve had really bad periods for as long as i can remember. it really disrupts my life because i am unable to function in class or at work. i can’t get anything done. i always get horrible cramps that keep me up all night, extreme fatigue (so bad that i feel like i can’t even move any part of my body), very hard time wake up in the morning no matter how much sleep i got, muscle pains all over, headaches, insane mood swings, and very severe depression. most of the symptoms begin a week before i get my period and go away a few days after i have it. the depression is the worst part. it’s been getting worse within the past year. the week before my period is complete torture. i stop talking to my friends and/or going out, i stay in my room and feel like the entire world is against me. i cry uncontrollably and feel tension in my entire body. it’s really scary. i don’t know if there is a certain medication for this? i take midol and it doesn’t do a thing. does birth control help these symptoms? does it sound like i have premenstrual dysphoric disorder? any help would be apreciated thanks

PostHeaderIcon Question about birth control?

premenstrual depression

Anyone out there on “the pill” who have also seen an improvement in premenstrual symptoms (cramps, appetite, moodiness, depression, bloating)? If so, what are you taking?
I am considering starting “the pill” for these reasons, but I am unsure what my best option is.
